Case #3 from the first set. Patient is two SD’s above normal SN-MP at 42 degrees. I would 100% call this hyperdivergent. ABO calls this normodivergent (states that they would accept hyperdivergent tendency). If 10 degrees above normal isn’t considered hyper, then what is? 😳

So, FMA is only one SD above normal (divergent anterior cranial base), so I assume this is why they are calling her normodivergent. Still though, she’s hyper. 😅

    Brian,

Great self analysis here. Yes, SN-MP is way out there and Yes, anterior cranial base divergence. Then spot on seeing the FMA is more “true” and so surely trending hyperdivergent.

And you are absolutely correct. I treat every “trending” hyperdivergent patient with real concern for the vertical. I don’t want to get surprised and have them run away with an open bite. It’s bit me in the rear before to see folks open up vertically….not a fun feeling. So I’d rather hang on to the vertical and then open the bite a bit at the end of treatment goals.

Everyone is free to jump in on comments! It’s great to workshop these sort of things! (I wish there was a “like” button on these posts)
