I have a question regarding Prompt #5: What are the ideal skeletal objectives.

Since we determined she is CVM3 and significant growth left, wouldn’t the skeletal objectives take into account her growth?

One of the answers was max impaction; and I understand that if pt was ready for surgery, but she still has significant growth left.

Wouldn’t we want to mention her growth in the answer? For instance; for the maxilla in the AP we would want to allow normal maxillary growth and vertically we would want to hold.

Or is the keyword “ideal”, meaning that this patient would need surgery and we would need to recognize that.

    Thanks again!

    Alice,

I like your thoughts here on growth. This prompt does answer in surgical terms but your listing of specific planes and accounting for growth is great.

As we gain more treatment tools I know someone might say “Hey this is surgery for them and wait until mature” and yet tons of people might use TAD intrusion, Headgear or other mechanics to acheive the skeletal goals.

If I was grading the prompt then I would be reading to see “Do they get that there is vertical excess in the posterior and that is what needs to be controlled / addressed?”
