    On prompt 1 it says the maxillary cant is left side down and prompt 2 calls for left side maxillary impaction.

    I am seeing it as the opposite, maxilla is canted down on patient’s right. That is how it seems to me from the intraoral photo. The extraoral photo is too blurry when I zoom in.

    Am I misunderstanding the designation of cants?

    I’m not able to evaluate cants from the ICP photo because of the lack of external reference. I see what you are saying about how the photo is cropped in the records making it appear different. Yes, the resolution is low due to the site but when I look in at it I see VME on the left side relative to horizontal planes of the face.

    Short Answer – I think you are understanding correct and your terms are correct. It’s just a limitation of the records resolution with out host site. And also just don’t let the intraorals confuse the picture. This has happened to me more than once where I look at the intraoral photos and think I’m on target and then the extraorals reveal some surprises!
