Are we still required to know how to use the software?

Anish, good clarification question. There will be screenshots of casts. The direction is to know the landmark locations, scoring parameters, and says to use their e-CRE sample case. Also see my sample review sheet in the General Discussion area where I write out a little funny work to help group the different scores.

[Every time the best source is the ABO. So I just went to their website and posting the screenshot here as proof! ]

I had this same question, glad to hear it will be screen shots.

        Thanks Chad!

I am just finishing up module 1. You guys have done a great job, thank you!

        Hi Chad,

Thank you for this course. Just a quick question, i understand it will be screenshots and we need to know what to look for and how to score it. Will the physical landmarks (and black lines) be on the exam, as in will the board do these for us per say? Please forgive my ignorance just want to be prepared.

        Thanks again

Balraj, I understand this area is a little confusing. The ABO is still saying no software manipulation at this time. So it will just be screenshots. I’m pasting below what the ABO has put as their E-CRE study guide and so the standard of what they are asking for on the exam. Does that clear it up?

Thanks for asking! I know many people have the same questions so thank to everyone speaking up. It helps!

            Hi Chad,

Thank you for replying so quickly. From that screenshot as i understand it, the landmarks are done already by the ABO and so are the discrepancy measurements. So i would just be scoring that screenshot effectively, 2 points for the 1.6mm between ur6 and ur7 for example. Is that correct? We are scoring their measurements in effect and NOT establishing the landmarks and differences in rotations for example.

            Best

Balraj, You are correct. You are scoring the screenshot they provide.

Pages 5 and 6 of the E-CRE and Case Materials PDF give the exact wording of the ABO.

              Key points:

              1) Still screen shots

              2) Grade digital models (NOT using software)

              3) Will NOT have the e-CRE parameters for reference (so have them memorized)

              4) There will be specific questions (they bold specific)

              5) Need to recognize correct landmark positions on models

The examiners are a group of Type A orthodontists like the rests of us so they will stick to the rules! Be sure to read their provided materials carefully and they will not steer you wrong.

    Hello,

I practiced the sample case from this link https://americanboardortho.com/media/5507/202107_cre_sup_cmf_samplecases.pdf

For alignment and rotations, I got 12. The answer says 11. Where is the discrepancy? Please see my screenshots.

    Thank you!

Leah, Looking at our screenshots its on the UR2-UR3 contact. The alignment is off by 0.5mm which is 0 points. If its 0.6mm – 1.0mm then it is 1 point.

Good news for Feb 2024 – There is NO GRADING CAST. The material you cite is from 2021. See the most recent info released in DECEMBER 2023 regarding the CRE and CMF case portion.

Oh! I am glad there will be no grading. In the article you linked, it says 0.5mm=1 point just FYI. It is frustrating though, because in the 2021 link, it says 0.5mm=0 points. Anyways, thank you, I am glad it won’t be on the exam. The inconsistencies in what the board publishes can be frustrating.. not sure if there is a way to provide feedback to them on this?

Leah, yes there is a feedback mechanism after the exam and then the board does poll members later as well. The best think is once we can all volunteer with the board as well to help it be as best of a representation of our speciality as possible. You’ve got this!

I wanted to understand what is the actual difference between occlusal contact and occlusal relation ship for the CRE parameters?
